Borussia Mönchengladbach without Elvedi and Plea for the time being – defensive worries

With Nico Elvedi (25) and Alassane Plea (29), Borussia Mönchengladbach has to do without two of its most valuable professionals for the time being. Defender Elvedi suffered a strain on the front lateral ligament and the capsule in the knee in the 0-1 (0-0) game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday, while offensive player Plea suffered a small torn muscle fiber in the adductor area without tendon involvement. The Borussen announced this on Monday.

Both players were substituted early against Mainz. Borussia initially gave no information about the probable duration of the failures. Coach Daniel Farke’s team has to play table leaders SC Freiburg next Sunday. In Breisgau, the Gladbachers are also missing Ko Itakura (25), who saw the red card against Mainz because of an emergency brake. Farke still have regular central defenders Marvin Friedrich (26) and Tony Jantschke (32) as well as Mamadou Doucouré (24), who has been on the ball five times this season in the Regionalliga West.
