Borussia Mönchengladbach: Seoane hopes for Jacob Italiano

In Gladbach’s reserve for 4 years

If there’s one thing Jacob Italiano has shown in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s reserves, it’s versatility. Since the Australian came to the “Foals” from Perth Glory four years ago, he has been on the pitch everywhere with the exception of the defensive center. Now the 22-year-old may finally become an option in the Bundesliga.

“He has good physical qualities, we also saw in the test against Werder how fast and agile he is,” said Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane, according to the “Picture“newspaper about Italiano, in whom former manager Max Eberl publicly expressed “great interest” in 2017, when Gladbach was unable to sign the trained winger because he was 16 years old at the time. The test match against Werder a week ago (0-1) could now be followed by further tasks with the professionals. Seoane emphasized: “It’s important for him now that he stays injury-free. We still have a bit of faith in him.”

Italiano’s flexibility is crucial. The young player with Italian roots has already appeared in many positions, but was primarily used on the offensive left wing. Seoane should consider him as a defensive wing option for the professionals, as an alternative to Joe Scally (20). In the last Regional League season alone, Italiano played as a right-back ten times and at left-back five times.
