Borussia Mönchengladbach: Itakura’s release clause revealed

Several top European clubs are chasing Ko Itakura. The professional who works for Borussia Mönchengladbach apparently has an exit clause in the summer and could leave the club for England.

According to information from “Sky”, Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in the central defender.

Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou wanted Itakura when he was coach at Celtic. And Reds coach Jürgen Kloppe also has the 26-year-old in his sights for his team.

As the TV station further reports, there is an exit clause in Gladbach’s contract that comes into effect in the summer and should be between ten and 15 million euros. A transfer to the island is possible in the next attempt.

There are always rumors about Itakura’s farewell

Last summer he was repeatedly linked with an early departure from the Lower Rhine.

SSC Napoli have reportedly offered twelve million euros for the defender. At the Sky Blues he was supposed to follow in the footsteps of Kim Min-jae, who, as is well known, moved to FC Bayern.

Itakura was on loan from Manchester City to FC Schalke 04 in the 2021/2022 season. In the summer of 2022, the Sky Blues will sell the international to Borussia Mönchengladbach for five million euros.

In the 2023/24 season, Itakura will only play seven Bundesliga games. He was out for a long time due to an injury to his ankle. Itakura is currently with the national team at the Asian Cup in Qatar

Unusually, Itakura returned from his national team to the Lower Rhine at the beginning of January for a few training sessions and a test match.

The Gladbachers wanted to convince themselves once again that the long-injured defensive player had the necessary fitness for the tournament.

There is a history to this: The Japanese was injured with the national team in the fall and was no longer able to play until the start of 2024.
