Borger/Sude in the round of 16 – out for Wickler/Ehlers

Karla Borger and Julia Sude have reached the round of 16 at the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Rome. The only German men’s team was eliminated.

Led by Karla Borger and Julia Sude, the German women’s teams at the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Rome have so far not shown any weaknesses. The third-place finishers in the European Championship moved into the round of 16 in the first knockout game on Wednesday (June 15, 2022).

Borger/Sude now against Canadians

The two women from Stuttgart beat Kelly Cheng and Betsi Flint from the USA 2:1 (21:17, 11:21, 15:12). The third place in the European Championship had to give up a set for the first time in their fourth World Cup game. In the round of 16, the two Germans meet Canadians Sophie Bukovec and Brandie Wilkerson on Thursday.

Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann are also in the round of 16 after their next win. They had to work hard for their 2-1 win (21:18, 20:22, 18:16) against Niina Ahtiainen/Taru Lahti from Finland .

Men’s duo Ehlers/Wickler eliminated

The only German male duo, Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler, was eliminated. They failed in two tight sets 0:2 (19:21, 19:21) at the Poles Piotr Kantor/Maciej Rudol.

From a German perspective, Sandra Ittlinger/Isabel Schneider and Chantal Laboureur/Sarah Schulz are still in action on Wednesday afternoon.
