Traffic psychologist Herbert Korbee understands the municipality’s choice to place 30 kilometers per hour signs everywhere. Confusing situations can arise on Pieter Calandlaan because side streets and exits look similar. “It is not necessary after exits, but after side streets it is,” says Korbee. “But I understand that the municipality opts for clarity and places signs everywhere.”

Road users have mixed reactions: some appreciate the clarity, while others find it “a waste of money and energy”. Alternatives, such as paint lines on the road, could be possible, but this is officially only allowed as support, Korbee explains.

A “zone 30” sign is not an option on Pieter Calandlaan, because the street differs from the surrounding neighborhood roads. For a zone, all roads must look the same, otherwise this will lead to more ‘confusion’.
