Bologna FC sign Jesper Karlsson from AZ Alkmaar

Among top AZ scorers

While former Bochum player Vangelis Pavlidis continues to shoot for Alkmaar in the new season, the second-best scorer from the previous AZ squad says goodbye to the Eredivisie: Jesper Karlsson signs for FC Bologna and costs the Italians as much as two players before.

25-year-old left winger Karlsson has signed a contract with Rossoblù until 2028 and will reportedly require a transfer fee of €11m. In Bologna’s transfer history, only Musa Barrow (2021/22) and Riccardo Orsolini (2019/20), also a winger, were more expensive. In Alkmaar, the Swede, who has had 79 direct goals in 124 games, joins a list of 13 players who sold AZ for eight figures. With 11 million euros, Karlsson is in tenth place there ahead of Wout Weghorst (2018 to VfL Wolfsburg). Karlsson’s ex-club IF Elfsborg, who initially received EUR 2.6 million from AZ in 2020 and were assured of a 15 percent resale share, should also benefit from the fee.
