Cloudy water, dead fish and bluish carpets of algae that reach the shore – blue-green algae alarm again at Lake Tegel!

Caution is advised: “Children and dogs in particular should avoid accumulations of plant remains or areas of water that are visibly green or have streaks as a precautionary measure,” warns Benjamin Ciupek from the State Office for Health and Social Affairs.

The Tegeler See, as the second largest body of water in Berlin, is already regularly checked and the water treated. Nevertheless, “the relevant points will be sampled again next Monday and all parameters will be checked,” assures Ciupek. There is no bathing ban.

Whether blue-green algae in Lake Tegel, golden algae in the Oder or cercaria in the Schlachtensee – “all of this will definitely get worse with the rising temperatures,” explains Janna Einöder from the Berlin Nature Conservation Association.

The appeal of the environmentalists: “Be careful and report sightings as soon as possible!”
