Birth house Johan Cruijff for rent: “Occasionally people are peeping”

The house where football legend Johan Cruijff grew up is for rent. A social rental home of 62 square meters in the heart of Betondorp in Amsterdam, for a maximum of 762 euros per month. The house does come with an extra price: the occasional snooper.

Johan Cruijff lived at 32 Akkerstraat from 1947 to 1959. A corner house where his parents had a greengrocer’s shop. The ground floor apartment has two bedrooms and a garden with a spacious barn.

The house is rented out by housing association Ymere via WoningNet. According to Coen Springelkamp van Ymere, there are already more than six hundred interested parties in a short time. “We tell future residents about the history of this house. It’s nice if you have some affinity with it.”

Peeking and cookie loitering

“Occasionally there are people peeking, peeking or taking a picture,” says a local resident. Springelkamp also knows that there are occasional snoopers. “It’s why we tell the new residents that some people take pictures of your home and sneak a peek inside every now and then.”

There is also a window sticker on the house with a text by Cruijff, which may not be removed. Wouldn’t it be better not to turn the house into a museum? “It would be nice, but it is also nice that someone can live there who does not have a home,” said the local resident.

The former house of Johan Cruijff is still on WoningNet until tomorrow.
