Biathlon World Cup| Magdalena Neuner begrudges Röiseland the World Cup record

Germany’s biathlon icon Magdalena Neuner begrudges the Norwegian Marte Olsbu Röiseland the title of sole record world champion.

“It’s not a problem for me that Marte replaced me. Time doesn’t stand still and I’m happy for her. She’s a great athlete and deserves the title,” Neuner told the German Press Agency.

The 32-year-old Röiseland had won the single mixed relay with her compatriot Johannes Thingnes Bö at the World Championships in Oberhof on Thursday and now has 13 World Championship gold medals to her credit.

Röiseland to Neuner: “fantastic biathlete”

Neuner, now a mother of three, has held the record for women with twelve titles since retiring in 2012.

“I didn’t really know that before. I heard it after the race in the mixed zone. Magdalena was a fantastic biathlete and it’s great to overtake her,” Röiseland said after the race.

The wife of the German women’s assistant coach Sverre Olsbu Röiseland had already won gold in the mixed relay at the Rennsteig.
