The 2024 Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto was a complete success for the organizer and the world association. A few days after the last race, the IBU announced new record numbers – Germany is at the top in a ranking.
The biathlon festival in Nove Mesto has paid off not only for the organizer, but also for the world association. As the IBU announced, it recorded a total of 3.5 million interactions on its social media channels during the World Cup – an increase of 75 percent compared to the previous year.
Fans were also more interested than ever when it came to video views. According to the IBU, these have increased by a whopping 200 percent and have broken the sound barrier of 30 million on the association’s channels alone. The “Eurovision Sport” platform, which was launched this season and on which the races could be seen free of charge, helped.
Biathlon World Cup record goes to Germany
National TV stations also benefited from the World Cup. Above all the Germans. With an average of 4.7 million viewers, ZDF set a record for the men’s mass start race at the 2024 World Cup.
Of course, there was also a lot of attention in Norway and Sweden. According to the IBU, they shared a whopping 80 percent market share last weekend.
A new record was also reported from France. The team around Julia Simon and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet’s successful run brought 1.8 million viewers to the TV station “L’Équipe” during the women’s mass start – more than ever before.
The number of spectators on the track and in the stadium was also impressive. According to official information, a total of 210,000 fans made a pilgrimage to the facility in the Czech Republic during the Biathlon World Championships.
