OBS Vogelvlucht in Elim has recently gained two new writers. Primary school teachers Katja van Luit and Marloes Schaart have both launched their first book.

“We both think reading and language are important,” says Van Luit from the classroom of groups 1, 2 and 3. “If I can pass that on to this target group, I will certainly do so.”

Yet it is not an agreed upon task between the two teachers to get into the pen. “We didn’t know that about each other,” Schaart assures. The subject was broached by chance during a team outing. “But it’s really nice when you meet someone who is on the same path as you and is also trying to publish their first book.”

The teachers both took a different path with their book. Schaart has the children’s book Mombie released, about a mother who encounters the zombie virus in Russia. “And what do you do? A good zombie can continue to live there, but if it is a bad thing, you will be locked up in a holiday village.”

The book is well read by the students in her class. “There are quite a few who have already purchased it and read it at home and we are now also reading it in class,” says Schaart.
