It is still almost nine months until the start of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Four Swedish biathlon stars already have their ticket for the seasonal highlight in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The Swedish Olympic Committee has already nominated several athletes for the 2026 Winter Olympics (February 6th to 22nd) – also in biathlon.

As can be seen from an official announcement, Hanna Öberg, Elvira Öberg, Sebastian Samuelsson and Martin Ponsiluoma secure their ticket for the seasonal highlight in Italy. The decision is not surprising, as the quartet has been part of the biathlon elite for several years.

Biathlon gold medals at the Winter Olympics

Hanna and Elvira Öberg already won the gold medal with the Swedish women’s relay at the 2022 Olympics. The first mentioned in Pyeongchang also crowned the Olympic champion in Single in 2018. Samuelsson also won gold with Sweden’s 2018 men’s season in South Korea.

In the past biathlon season, Elvira Öberg in particular caused a sensation in the team of head coach Johannes Lukas. The 26-year-old fulfilled a long-awaited dream with her world championship title in the mass start.

“This season was a single roller coaster,” said Elvira Öberg her winter on Instagram. “The valleys were deep, but the peaks were as high as I could only dream of,” she explained.

“Leaving such a tough season behind me is still good, because even if it was sometimes really hard, I can now call myself a world champion, I drove in yellow for the first time and have contested some of the best races of my life. But above all I managed to develop myself as a biathlete, which is almost the most important thing for me,” wrote the Swedish ski hunter. Elvira Öberg had had to fit due to illness in the meantime.
