The extended circle of favourites

Who else could be dangerous for the Norwegians? Best placed is Frenchman Fabien Claude, who will leave the starting gate 1:23 behind. Martin Ponsiluoma and Antonin Guigonnat are also all close together.

13:36

Hartweg as a beacon of hope

All hopes for the Swiss rest on 23-year-old Niklas Hartweg. With a perfect shooting performance in the sprint, he got the tenth starting place for the pursuer. His teammates are already far behind. Joscha Burkhalter will start from 40th place, Sebastian Stalder from 46th place and Serafin Wiestner only as 49th in today’s competition.

Komatz wants to go further

Things are going extremely well for David Komatz this season. The Austrian has now really got going and achieved his best result in eleventh place in the sprint. He is sandwiched between the strong Niklas Hartweg and Benedikt Doll. The three athletes are each separated by a second. As 25th, Simon Eder is more in the midfield. Harald Lemmerer is the third ÖSV athlete at the start, but has to wait three minutes and six seconds before he can intervene in the race.

Germans want to be on the podium

From the point of view of the other nations, there is probably nothing to get up front. However, the gaps to third place are much smaller, so that Roman Rees can hope for a medal from a German point of view. Finishing eighth after the sprint, he is a minute and 27 seconds behind the leader but only 12 seconds behind third. Benedikt Doll is also not hopelessly positioned as 12th. Justus Strelow starts the pursuit race as 16th, Johannes Kühn starts as 20th, Philipp Nawrath as 30th and David Zobel as 38th brings up the rear of the German team.

13:13

Norwegian dominance continues

Even after the World Championships, the Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bø is the measure of all things this season. He already has the small ball in the Sprint World Cup and that’s exactly how it should go on. Even the closest competitors all come from their own country. Johannes Thingnes Bø will open the chase again and has his brother in tow. However, it takes 30 seconds for Tarjei Bø to go hunting. Behind them it takes a long time until after a total of 1:15 minutes Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen and shortly afterwards Endre Strømsheim are allowed to start the race.
