After motorcycle leader Suga is unexpectedly acquitted in a murder case, his problems really begin. He loses a large batch of meth, is thrown out of the club, gets the Irish mafia behind him. Who is behind all this ‘bad luck’? The rival motorcycle gang? Or should he look for it in his own ranks? The problems at work penetrate deeper and deeper into his already battered family life.

The five -part crime series Suga: Ride or Die was made by Diederik van Rooijen (Penoza, the stam holder) For Amazon Prime Video. Fascinating to see a detailed sketch of the Dutch criminal motorcycle gangs once, à la the American series Sons of Anarchy. Ripdeals, Bad Standing, betrayal. Wild party in a shed with topless sex workers and tough men in leather and denim, with fat hair and tattoos. The action scenes are tight, hard and spectacular. Gijs Naber (SIDODDERFAKKER, JUDAS) Before the title role, he got his motorcycle license and did his stunts himself.

Bath

Suga is mirrored bath Lynn, played by Elise Schaap (Undercover). Just like Suga, she too does not have enough eye for the family, she too is swallowed up by her work and by a personal revenge action. She too stands with Coke, the white engine. However, she does only come into action in the second half of the series. In the first parts, the police are virtually absent.

That actually also applies to the family, while it later is all -determining. Is in the story in itself. Van Rooijen initially keeps a few most important players behind, which in itself works well. But he puts quite a lot of tragedies and plot twists in it, especially for a series of only five episodes. It could have been ten better. The big revelations also come out of the sky very much.

Suga Is not a very surprising crime series. If it was not Dutch, we would have skipped him. However, what the series rises above the middle bracket is the strong game, especially from Gijs Naber as the slowly crumbling Suga, Sallie Harmsen as his resolute, mourning, and Teun Kuilboer as his bosom friend Spike.
