Beth Mead returns to the England national team

After tearing her cruciate ligament and taking a break for more than a year, European champion Beth Mead is returning to the English national football team. The Arsenal FC attacker, who was top scorer and best player at last year’s European Championships, is in the runner-up world champion’s squad for the upcoming Nations League games.

“That’s of course very nice. She’s already played for a few minutes, is in a good mood and is continuing to build up,” said national coach Sarina Wiegman: “It was a very nice phone call, she was very happy.”

Mead suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament last November and missed the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand due to the injury. England host the Netherlands at Wembley Stadium on December 1st and face Scotland at Hampden Park four days later.
