Best MTV Unplugged Concerts: Alanis Morissette 1999

No, no “Thank U”. No “So Pure” either. Alanis Morissette resists the temptation to recycle too many key tracks from her latest album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, on her MTV visit with a full band and strings.

But she can’t get past “Ironic” and “You Oughta Know”, which, being remodeled out of necessity, is so explicit that – one way or another – it still hurts. In addition, she serves hitherto unreleased songs like “No Pressure Over Cappuccino” and “Princes Familiar”.

And then there’s Sting’s “King Of Pain,” which seems befitting of this melodramatic Queen of Pain.

MTV is airing Alanis Morissette’s unplugged performance as part of its 30th anniversary of MTV Unplugged. Broadcast date: Saturday 06 August at 00:00.

The current issue of ROLLING STONE has a big special on the music station’s legendary live series. A list of the top 30 MTV Unplugged albums is also included.
