Bertrie and Dorian got to know each other five years ago on the set of GTST. “In the beginning we were only colleagues and I didn’t feel a click yet. But I soon noticed that I fell in love with him. When we had spoken to each other, it all went very quickly.”
Less than a year later they lived together. “He lived in the middle of Amsterdam and enjoyed the bustling city life. I myself come from Friesland and I just like to look for the crowds only occasionally, but not to live there. I gave Dorian plenty of room to make a choice, but after a year he already moved in on my houseboat at Hilversum. Now he doesn’t want to return to the city, haha.”

The first phase
Last year the couple were engaged and their daughter Lena was born in November. “Three months after the birth I would actually go back to work full -time GTSTbut that didn’t feel good at all. I was still breastfeeding and wanted to be there for Lena in that first phase. Because working part -time was not an option, I unfortunately decided to quit the series after six years. This was not an easy choice, but my work is secondary to my daughter. I will never get this time with her. “

Great passion
Before the birth, Bertrie did not expect that she would work less. “Since I am a mother, I feel very clear what I want and I trust more on my intuition. Of course it is a luxury that I can work less, but I think every mother should have this option. You choose to put a person on earth, so it is very important that you are there, especially in the beginning, for your child.”
Yet acting still remains a big passion for Bertrie. “Eventually it will probably tickle again to work more. Acting is simply what I love the most. But at the moment work is not paramount and I want to focus entirely on my family.”
Conscious choices
“I now work about five hours a week and the rest of the time I am at home with our daughter. Dorian is currently playing in 40-45, the musical. Because he only has to leave in the evening, we have together all morning. That is really a golden moment for us, quietly having breakfast together and starting the day without hurry. ”
The couple makes conscious choices when it comes to work. “Our management makes sure that we are not working at the same time, because we do not want to bring Lena to a shelter. It feels very wrong for me to leave her a whole day with ‘strangers’. I think it is a much nicer idea that she develops herself socially and emotionally within our family, instead of a daycare. Family life
When it comes to the household, Bertrie and Dorian have no fixed division of tasks. “The nights are now a bit heavier for me, because I am breastfeeding. After a spicy night, Dorian takes over more tasks during the day. If he is tired of a long working day, I will pick up more. So we tack the division of tasks a little to each other’s energy. That actually goes without saying.”
In addition to their busy family life, the couple also tries to free up time for each other. “We involve Lena everywhere, so we have little time left with the two of us. That’s why we go out to dinner together at least once a month. Of course we still talk about our daughter. The idea that you are on one Date Night Not being allowed to talk about your child, I find really nonsense. We love to discuss things that we experience with her. If you let that go free, other conversations will also start automatically. “
Priorities
Bertrie nowadays no longer has much time for himself. “If Dorian is home too, I sometimes take a moment for myself to read or meditate. Some people say you have to give up a lot if you get children, but I don’t experience that at all. For me it is a huge liberation that it is no longer just about myself. My priorities are now very clear, and that is very tasty.”
