The Berlin Zoo was cleared on Friday afternoon. The reason is a bird that was found to have bird flu, so the site will remain “closed to guests as a precaution,” it said on a notice.

It is unclear when the zoo can reopen. The aquarium will remain open for the time being.

“I can now confirm a case,” said a spokeswoman for the Senate Department for Consumer Protection. The zoo had been cleared early Friday afternoon, as a dpa reporter observed on site. It is unclear when the zoo can reopen.

As the “Tagesspiegel” reports, citing authorities, a week-long closure is expected internally.
