The police arrested 23 suspected hooligans around the Willem II – FC Emmen match on Saturday. It mainly concerns young men from Beveren, Belgium, friends with FC Emmen supporters. They stood out because of their cars and clothing in the parking lot at the stadium.
Stewards and security guards decided to approach the group. When they asked additional questions, some of the men pulled hats and hoods over their heads and started shouting. According to the police, this was very similar to previous situations in which similar groups caused disturbances. Therefore, access to the stadium was denied.
ME includes group
To prevent the situation from escalating, the group was surrounded in the parking lot by the police, with support from the Mobile Unit. Afterwards, 23 supporters were arrested on the basis of the General Local Regulation. They would have imposed themselves unnecessarily or caused a risk of disorder with challenging behavior.
All suspects have been taken to the police station. After making a statement and paying for a transaction, they were allowed to return home, well after the match had ended.
