Belarus gets ‘modern’ weapons from Russia

Russia will supply “modern” military equipment to Belarus in the near future. A spokesman for Belarusian President Alexandr Lukashenko said that after the head of state met President Vladimir Putin for five hours in Moscow. Details were not given.

The two allies also agreed to continue supporting each other in the face of Western sanctions imposed on both countries, the Belarusian news agency said.

Earlier in the day, Ukraine accused Russia of trying to involve Belarus in the war against Ukraine by attacking villages in Belarus under false flags. Russian warplanes that came out of Ukrainian airspace are said to have attacked villages in Belarus on Friday. According to Kiev, this “provocation” would aim to involve Belarus in the war in the neighboring country.

Russia has sent thousands of military personnel into Ukraine via Belarus, but there are as yet no indications that Belarusian military personnel are active there.
