The 1. FC Köln broke up with chief scout Martin Schulz. The reason for this was probably differences with sports director Christian Keller.
The upcoming summer transfer period is of particular importance from the point of view of 1. FC Köln. If the return to the upper house fails, numerous departures from top performers threaten a major upheaval. In the middle of preparation for the summer, the club has now made a serious personnel decision.
As FC announced on Wednesday, Martin Schulz is no longer the second division club’s head scout. Instead, Gabor Ruhr, who had previously worked as an expert for the Scandinavian market, was promoted under Schulz. “The 1. FC Köln has decided to reorganize the cross -divisional management of its scouting. Gabor Ruhr is now becoming the new coordinator mess & squad planning,” says a short message.
In addition, the club explains: “In the course of the line change, the FC separated from Martin Schulz.” The latter had practiced the chief scout role for almost four and a half years and had worked for FC for almost twelve years. Thank you for the 38-year-old “for his great commitment over the years” and wish him “everything good for his future”. However, the announcement of the Cologne names does not contain an explanation for Schulz ‘.
Christian Keller also did not want to comment on the personnel on request – but as a sporting managing director, the driving force behind the change in the scouting department was. Schulz ‘from is apparently a consequence of the past winter transfer period, in which there are said to have differences between the long-standing FC employee and basement.
In particular, the search for a new striker had made a difficult time and the basement brought criticism. After various cancellations, including the Danish talent Luca Kjerrumgaard and Union of Berlin Ivan Prtajin, the Cologne team finally hired Imad Rondic from the Polish first division club Widzew Lodz – mind you on the last day of the change window.
Keller was apparently not satisfied with the list of potential transfer candidates, the so -called shadow squad. The sports boss and Schulz are said to have assessed players differently – now Keller is starting the trend -setting transfer summer with a new chief of scouting.
Schulz ‘successor Gabor Ruhr had initially worked as a game analyst for FC from 2015 to 2018, then in self -functioning for Eintracht Frankfurt (2019 to 2021) and as a chief analyst for Hertha BSC (2021 to 2024). He has been a member of the Cologne Scoutin Division again since February 2024.
