‘Beer van de Meer’ Piet Schrijvers passed away (75)

Piet Schrijvers passed away at the age of 75. The former goalkeeper of Ajax and Orange had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

From 1974 to 1983 Piet Schrijvers kept for Ajax. With the team from Amsterdam, the ‘Beer van de Meer’ won five national titles and two national cups. In his Ajax time, Schrijvers also conquered the place under the crossbar at Orange.

Argentina World Cup

In total, Schrijvers played 46 international matches and played an important role at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. The Netherlands then reached the final, where it lost to the host country. Unfortunately, Schrijvers was injured just before this match and he watched the final battle from the stands.

After his active career, Schrijvers focused on the coaching profession. For example, he was responsible for AZ in the 1993-1994 season.
