Beau van Erven Dorens is really in shock of what Gerard Spong has called again. “It is a very strange quote that he gives here. Is that just hurting your stomach?” He says on television.
The well -known criminal lawyer Gerard Spong is under fire because of statements in the documentary ‘Blue balls and other rape myths’. In this he says about rape cases: “What always strikes me in those things is that women, when it comes to male-female relationships, are quickly raped. They soon give up their resistance.”
Defensible woman
Spong will of course do this Victim Blaming. He says, “I have the idea that a good resilient woman, who will drastically decrease the number of rapes.”
It leads to deep disappointment at Beau van Erven Dorens. He responds in his talk show: “It is a very strange quote that he gives here. It also looks strange, but he really says that quote.”
70 percent
Table guest Suse van Kleef finds it unpleasant. “Yes, and I also have the idea that quite a lot of people think that resilience could help against rape, while of course that makes no sense at all. I just sought back how often victims of sexual abuse freeze when that happens.”
How much is that? “That is 70 percent of people who are sexually abused. They freeze. That is about men and about women. That means that resilience does not help at all. The myth that if women put on a big mouth or are mild that they would not be raped, that of course makes no sense.”
Intelligent
The journalist finds the ideas of Spong outdated. “I have sometimes had such conversations with men I thought they were pretty intelligent and who also said to me:” Yes, but that doesn’t happen to your women? “
Beau: “Yes, but it is crazy to hear that from the mouth of one of our greatest lawyers? Something Doms?”
Suse: “Yes, Victim Blaming.”
Terrible
Medegast Rifka Lodeizen is also not possible with her cap. “Yes, I think it’s terrible when someone says this,” said the actress.
Beau: “Yes, does that just hurt your stomach?”
Writer Marith Iedema: “But also so stupid, right? He also knows how to respond to it? It is incredibly stupid to say that in this time.”
By the woman
Suse finds Spong a Clichéman. “But he also seems pretty sure. You know that you are in a documentary about rape mythes and you are therefore able to spoon such a pronounced myth. That is special.”
Journalist Floor Bremer: “And to put everything with the woman again, while I think they are not the ones who cause the problem.”
No response
Rachel van Bommel, producer of the TV series Máxima, finds Spong a jerk. “Yes, well, with the same disbelief as everyone at the table.”
Beau: “And again: from the mouth of such an established and respected lawyer it is shocking. We have of course asked him for a response, but he has not replied yet.”
