Clear message: A week before the Lower Saxony Sendersby, football fans Daniela Behrens devote numerous posters at the Braunschweig carnival. The trouble about the interior minister is great.
Exactly a week is still until the explosive Lower Saxony Sendersby between Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig on March 9th. The harbing of the duel on Sunday was also clearly recognizable at the carnival in the Löwenstadt.
Numerous posters could be seen. However, not addressed to the upcoming opponent, but to Lower Saxony’s Interior Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD). “Without fans no derby”, “Daniela, piss off”, “Behrens must fall”, “buried populist politicians” or “freedom for the curves” could be read on it. The poster holders wore a Behrens mask with a clown nose. Occasionally “Behrens out” calls mingled with carnival music.
In the early afternoon, the police reported another incident. On the Bohlweg, a person tried to throw a mug on the interior minister. An uninvolved third had become wet. The police have taken measures against the thrower.
The reason for the anger: Behrens has been significantly involved in the past few months to enforce the reduction in the guest company in the Lower Saxony Senders. Even at the upcoming duel, the guest block in the Heinz von Heiden Arena in Hanover can only be utilized 60 percent. Only around 2,500 Braunschweig fans may be there. The Hanover police department had ordered this.
Because of the repeated riots before, during or after the games between Braunschweig and Hanover, Behrens had even spoken out for a complete exclusion of the guest fans last year. Already at the first leg in Braunschweig, only 1,260 instead of 2,100 96 supporters were allowed to buy a ticket.
Fans had demonstrated against the derby measures. For the game on Sunday, the BTSV Ultras called up to the boycott. Last Thursday, around 500 Braunschweig supporters were under the motto “against guest fan restrictions – fan culture unmistakable!” marched through Hanover. They moved from the main train station to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior, where Behrens is based.
Before Behrens drove across the old town market on Sunday at the Carnival on Sunday, the fans had already withdrawn with their posters. There were therefore no other slogans when the interior minister in a white and green outfit passed the place on a swan.
