The Gladiators Trier continue to have an impeccable record in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). The newcomer even set a record against BB Löwen Braunschweig.
After three wins in the first three games of the new BBL season The Gladiators Trier started the game against Braunschweig with many mistakes. Too many ball losses, too little precision in the throws – after four and a half minutes, Trier was eleven points behind against a very attentive Lower Saxony (2:13).
The newcomer then bit into the game. Led by center Maik Zirbes, Trier continually reduced the deficit and took the lead for the first time at the start of the second quarter with a three-point throw from Eli Brooks – 24:21. In a duel that was intense until the break, neither team was able to pull away and the score was 37:37.
Good start to the third quarter for the Gladiators
The Gladiators got off to a better start in the third quarter. After a successful three-pointer from Jordan Roland, Trier’s lead was ten points (52:42). In a final phase of the game full of inaccuracies and low in points, Trier managed to maintain their lead. Only in the final seconds did the Rhineland-Palatinate team have to tremble a bit again when the Lions got within three.
In the end, the Gladiators Trier beat Braunschweig 78:73 and remain undefeated in the still young BBL season. The best scorer of the game was Braunschweig’s Joshua Obiesie with 25 points, the most successful shooter for Trier was Clay Guillozet with 15 points.
Gladiators Trier set opening record
With their fourth win in their fourth game, the Gladiators Trier set a record. Only Würzburg (2015/2016) and Rostock (2022/2023) had previously celebrated four wins in a row as promoted teams. If Trier also wins in Oldenburg on the 5th matchday of the Basketball Bundesliga (October 24th, 8:00 p.m.), this would mean the sole record.
