The Heidelberg basketball players clearly defeat Chemnitz and, after 50 years, make the jump into the semi-finals of the BBL playoffs for the first time.
State of emergency in Heidelberg: Last season the Academics played against relegationNow they are among the best four teams in the Bundesliga: With the 92: 64 success in the fourth quarter-final game against the Niners Chemnitz (May 27th), the Heidelberg basketball players decided the best-of-five series with 3: 1 and thus made it into the Playoffs half-final. The Danny Jansson team now meets Bayern Munich.
Academics Heidelberg start confidently
The hosts started confidently in the sold -out Heidelberg Arena and quickly took the lead 4-0. The Kurpfälzer presented themselves strongly in the offensive rebounds and also consistently used the high error rate in the Chemnitz building game on the defensive. In this way, they initially expanded their leadership to 14: 9 in the middle of the first quarter. However, because the guests got into play better and better and got a lot of confidence in their strong distances, a game developed at eye level, in which the Niners came in the second quarter to equalize 35: 35.
At the end of an intensive first half, the head coach Danny Jansson got the momentum back and – thanks to the accuracy of Michael Weathers – took a 48: 41 lead into the half -time break.
Heidelberg brilliant in the third quarter
The Heidelberger took this swing into the third quarter. The home side acted bravely and with a lot of train to the basket. Chemnitz found no playful remedy against increasingly self -confident Heidelberger, which expanded their lead to 67:48.
Worn by the fans, the hosts did not burn anything in the last quarter. With a lot of enthusiasm and a high effect, the league surprise team brought the lead over time confidently and celebrated a deserved 92: 64 victory against the Niners.
In the first semi -finals for 50 years, the Heidelbergers have now encountered the highly favorite basketball players of FC Bayern Munich. It starts in the best-of-five series on June 1st. In the second semi -finals, Ulm is going against Braunschweig or Würzburg.
