On Sunday the last match day in the BBL will be in front of the playoffs. For eight teams, it’s all about everything – with Alba Berlin as a spectator.
So you should like a last match day as a league. When the last eight games of the regular season take place on Sunday in the BBL, decisions will be made in almost all halls. Because the struggle for the playoffs and pre-playoffs comes to a head for the very last meters of the 2024/25 season. So far, only four teams are sure to move into the Ko-rounds, five teams know that they will end after the coming weekend.
Alba Berlin can become fifth or seventh
Alba Berlin is in the middle of this drama. The finalist of the past year ended an extremely complicated season with a significant victory against relegated BG Göttingen, but will only find out on Sunday on the couch how to proceed. Berlin is currently ranked six and would be directly in the playoffs, but it can be a better starting point than fifth, but also slipping into seventh place, which would mean the detour via the pre-playoffs.
For the Niners Chemnitz (at the Baskets Oldenburg) and Academics Heidelberg (against the Skyliners Frankfurt), the question is: directly in the playoffs or only in the preliminary stage? Both teams win their games, Alba would only be seventh, among the top 6 Berlin stays if one of the two opponents does not win.
If Heidelberg Patzen, the team only remained the pre-playoffs, Chemnitz loses, the Niners would have to hope for a slip of the Academics.
The direct comparison makes everything even more complicated
There is also a punch and jump-off in the fight for the last places in the pre-playoffs. Oldenburg and Rasta Vechta (at Baskets Bamberg) want to jump into the top 10 with victories, while the Rostock Seawolves (in Göttingen), Giant Ludwigsburg (at Bayern Munich) and Cup winner Systainics MBC (against Baskets Bonn) try to claim.
The Towers Hamburg and Bonn, which against Bayern’s basketball players played his last opportunity, have no chance of playing. With a success against Ratiopharm Ulm, the Hamburgers could come to a balanced record of 16:16 and unlock the competition if loses – however, the direct comparison, which is decisive in the BBL, is negative.
Because of this regulation, the Würzburg Baskets already have their ticket for the playoffs, although they are currently only fifth. The team has lost a direct comparison with Chemnitz and is therefore behind them if there would be a four -man comparison in the defeats of the two clubs and a victory of Heidelberg, the Baskets would be in front and the Niners would be out. Not only basketball fans are a spectacle on Sunday – but also math professionals.
