Bayern-Schreck 1. FC Saarbrücken continues upward trend

Third division football team and Bayern horror 1. FC Saarbrücken continues to move towards the top half of the table.

With the 5:2 (1:0) in the catch-up game at Viktoria Köln, coach Rüdiger Ziehl’s team celebrated its second win in a row and improved to eleventh place around three weeks before the cup quarter-finals against Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach (March 12).

After its third defeat in a row, Cologne is in 14th place with an eight-point lead over the relegation zone.

Amine Naifi was the match winner for the guests in Cologne Höhenberg with a brace (3rd and 67th). Kai Brünker also scored for Saarbrücken.

For Cologne, André Becker (55th) was only able to shorten the score temporarily. Viktoria’s goalkeeper Ben Voll was then able to parry a penalty from Kasim Rabihic (66′), but Naifi used the follow-up to make the decision.

Luca Kerber (85th) and Tim Civeja (90th + 2) increased the score for the Saarlanders in the final phase, in which Luca de Mester (90th + 1) made cosmetic gains for the hosts.
