Both hits were preceded by serious mistakes. Before Munich took the lead, Willi Orban had played the ball into Joshua Kimmich’s feet; on the other side, Min-Jae Kim had to let the nimble Lois Openda run – when he brought in the cross, Dayot Upamecano was not close enough to Sesko after stumbling.

Laimer scores for Bayern for the first time

Munich tried a lot, but not much succeeded. Until the 25th minute. That’s when Konrad Laimer initiated a Bayern attack and completed it worth seeing with a volley to give Bayern the lead again (25′). It was the first goal for the Austrian, who played for Leipzig for six years before moving to Bayern in the summer of 2023.

Ten minutes later, Joshua Kimmich took courage and shot from 25 meters on the right. The ball turned slightly and Peter Gulacsi in the goal of the guests from Saxony had no chance.

Bayern were overpowering after the break

Gulacsi caused a stir twice after the break when he quickly extended his right fist against Musiala and Harry Kane, who was playing for the first time after an injury break. Overall, Leipzig was exposed to a fireworks display of top-class Bayern chances. Leroy Sane failed with a shot from the left position (53′).

In the 75th minute, the highly gifted Bayern player was successful from an identical position – and was then surrounded by congratulating teammates. Davies had served Sané with a precision pass deep, and the Canadian headed in a short time later from Kimmich’s cross from the right to make it 5-1 (78th).

Henrichs is seriously injured

Benjamin Henrichs was injured without any opposition and remained lying on the pitch in great pain, surrounded by teammates from Leipzig and Bayern. Referee Daniel Siebert whistled off the game during the injury interruption. It is feared that the national player has suffered a serious injury.

With this success, Munich extended its lead in the table to seven points over Bayer Leverkusen, who host Freiburg on Saturday evening. Leipzig remains in fourth place.

Because of the terrible events in Magdeburg, the planned small Christmas ceremony in the Munich stadium after the game was canceled. Instead, Bayern President Jan Dreeßen called for a minute’s silence. Afterwards, many of the 75,000 spectators sang “Silent Night” together with the Tölzer Boys’ Choir.
