Bayern Munich | Makaay on Kane: “No one needs to worry”

With a goal and an assist in FC Bayern’s 4-0 win over Werder Bremen, Harry Kane celebrated an outstanding debut at FC Bayern. It is no surprise for ex-striker Roy Makaay that the newcomer hits the ground running.

“Harry Kane will be up to the pressure in Munich, he knows it as the captain and top scorer of the Three Lions,” wrote Makaay in a “kicker” column.

The 48-year-old Dutchman added: “He’s an outstanding striker, nobody needs to worry.” According to Makaay, Kane’s further adjustment should also be quick. “Almost everyone in the team speaks English, coach Thomas Tuchel worked in the Premier League. Good players always get along on the pitch,” he emphasized.

Kane “a little nervous” ahead of debut at Bayern Munich

In the opening win in Bremen, Kane prepared the early goal by Leroy Sané (4th). He scored himself with a powerful right-footed shot in the 74th minute. The 30-year-old left the pitch in the 84th minute with cramps and to the applause of the Munich fans who had traveled with him.

After the game, Kane admitted he was quite tense. “It was nervous anticipation. I’m very happy to start the season with my new club. I was a little nervous but once you’re on the pitch the instinct kicks in. It was a good result and I’ve got 80 minutes done,” said the Englishman.

A situation that Makaay is also very familiar with. The striker came to Bayern Munich from Deportivo La Coruña in 2003 for what was then a club record transfer fee of 19.75 million euros.

“As the most expensive purchase in the club’s history at the time, I didn’t feel any particular pressure, you always have that when you play for Bayern,” emphasized Makaay: “And as a Bayern striker, many goals are expected of you.”

However, it is not the players but the clubs who are responsible for the high transfer fees. “But I realized from day one that you don’t want to win at Bayern, you have to,” said the two-time German champion.
