Bayern Arena shines for Beckenbauer

“THANK YOU FRANZ” – the Bayern Munich arena shines in memory of the club’s idol Franz Beckenbauer. On Tuesday evening, the German record champions illuminated the outside of their stadium in huge white letters on a red background to pay tribute to what is probably the most important figure in the club’s history.

For a few days, the Allianz Arena will shine with the logo from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. To round things off, the special lighting will also be visible on Friday at Bayern’s Bundesliga home game against TSG Hoffenheim (8:30 p.m./Sat.1 and DAZN) from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Beckenbauer was also omnipresent at Munich’s training session on Tuesday. Coach Thomas Tuchel and his players posed before the start of the session with a current jersey with a “Thank you Franz” print as well as an original jersey that Beckenbauer wore on June 26, 1965 in the promotion round to the Bundesliga against Tennis Borussia Berlin.

Captain Manuel Neuer and Co. wore mourning ribbons during training. “The team, as the heart of the entire club, stands alongside its family and friends in mourning,” said Bayern. Beckenbauer died on Sunday evening at the age of 78. Fans from all over the world can sign a digital condolence book from Wednesday.
