Bayer 04 Leverkusen has made the signing of Argentine offensive talent Alejo Sarco official. The 18-year-old center forward comes on a free transfer from champions Vélez Sarsfield and signed a contract with the Werkself until June 30, 2029.
“Alejo Sarco is a promise for the future of Bayer 04 Leverkusen,” said Managing Director Sport Simon Rolfes. “He is a technically adept player, fast, agile and assertive in a duel. With his finishing skills, he completes the profile of a modern center forward. Alejo has a promising career ahead of him.”
Sarco scored one goal and one assist in nine games for Vélez Sarsfield, but last appeared on the field in June. The reason for this was that the attacker did not want to extend his contract, which expired at the end of the year. The board reacted very sensitively and, in addition to suspending the player, issued a statement expressing displeasure with the “ungratefulness” and “audacity” of the player and those around him.
In Leverkusen, Sarco is happy about the “step towards becoming a top club in Europe. This is something I dreamed of,” says the 1.79 meter tall left-footer. “Bayer 04 had been interested for a long time, which made me follow the club’s fantastic last season even more intensively. It is exciting for me to be part of this team in the future and a great challenge to strengthen it with my resources.”
