Bayer Leverkusen: Lifetime Achievement Award for Rudi Völler

Rudi Völler, the long-standing sports director of the Bundesliga soccer club Bayer Leverkusen and world champion from 1990, was honored with the Sport-Bild-Award 2022 for his life’s work on Monday evening.

The 62-year-old withdrew from the club’s operational business after the end of last season, but is still a member of the Bayer shareholders’ committee. As DFB team boss, Völler led the German national team to the 2002 World Cup final.

At the award ceremony in Hamburg’s Fischauktionshalle, outstanding achievements of the year were honored, including in the categories “Climber of the Year” (Christopher Nkunku), “Olympic Record” (Natalie Geisenberger), “Team of the Year” (Eintracht Frankfurt) and ” Star of the Year” (Malaika Mihambo).

700 guests from sports, entertainment, politics, business and the media attended.
