Bayer 04 Leverkusen will have to do without new signing Equi Fernández for a long time. The 23-year-old Argentine suffered a ligament injury in his left knee during the 2-0 win against SC Freiburg on Sunday. The Werkself stated a downtime of seven to eight weeks.
Fernández moved from Al-Qadsiah from Saudi Arabia to Leverkusen late in the transfer period for 25 million euros and, after being sent off on his debut, had recently earned a regular place in midfield. Against Freiburg he was in coach Kasper Hjulmand’s starting line-up for the sixth time this season.
