The 14th day of Serie A ends with Reyer’s victory in the Veneto derby against Nutribullet: Venice crushes Treviso 87-66 and regains fourth position in the standings, overtaking Olimpia again. Once again, an extraordinary Kyle Wiltjer (24 points) was decisive, accompanied by the expert direction of RJ Cole (22 points and 7 assists). The return of Marcelo Nicola on the Nutribullet bench is not enough to avoid yet another defeat, the eighth in the last nine matches: Treviso remains stuck at the bottom of the table.

the match

As usual, Treviso started strong: 6 baskets in the first 6 shots, while an extraordinary Radosevic reached double figures in just under 7′. Venezia enters the game thanks to a couple of triples from Wheatle, then manages to put Nutribullet’s attack out of gear by lowering the pace in their own half (only 3 shots scored out of 11 attempts by the guests after the initial 6/6) and closing the first quarter ahead 23-21. Treviso has already lost the energy seen at the start of the match and experiences a long empty passage, losing 9 balls in the second period (of which 5 due to Olisevicius). Reyer took advantage of this: RJ Cole’s hands repeatedly triggered Wiltjer, a 10-3 partial that separated Venezia (41-34) in the last minutes of the first half. At halftime, the hosts return to the locker room ahead 46-39.

irrepressible wiltjer

After the long break Wiltjer immediately resumes hammering the Nutribullet: 8 points for the Canadian wing in just over 2′, to which is added Cole’s step-back conclusion which sends Reyer to +14 (58-44). Abdur-Rahkman prevents Treviso from definitively derailing, but the rest of Nicola’s team appears out of the game: at the start of the last quarter Nutribullet even loses ball number 18, leaving them with a double-digit deficit (66-53). The only attempt at a comeback comes when Radosevic takes the reins again, briefly bringing the guests back to -7 (67-60), but Venezia takes little time to regain the reins. RJ Cole interrupts the opponent’s positive streak, then Wiltjer takes care of sealing the match with the 2+1 play that makes Reyer escape at +18 (82-64) 2′ minutes from the final siren. The rest is pure formality: at Taliercio Reyer wins 87-66 and regains fourth place in the rankings.
