Alba Berlin continues its upward trend. Coach Pedro Calles’ team won at home in front of 9,221 spectators against the previous league leaders Syntainics MBC with 88:80 (40:45).

For Alba it was the sixth competitive win in a row and the third in a row in the Bundesliga. The best Berlin throwers were Martin Hermannsson with 19, as well as Jack Kayil and Justin Bean with 16 points each.

Alba lights up late

Alex O’Connell, who was only signed on Wednesday, celebrated his debut in the Alba jersey for the hosts. But his team didn’t get off to a good start. Captain Jonas Mattisseck only scored the first points after three and a half minutes – the MBC was already leading 5-0. The guests were much more accurate, Alba was behind by double digits (15:25) shortly before the end of the third quarter.

The Berliners then started a 10-0 run across quarters and equalized. However, it wasn’t the turning point. Because the MBC responded with successful three-point throws and Alba continued to make too many mistakes. So the hosts went into the locker room with a deficit.

Strong nerves until the end

The Berliners then came back with a lot more momentum, they defended much more intensively and also acted with more concentration. They took the lead for the first time in this game at 49:47. Even though the MBC continued to resist, Alba now had more control and didn’t relinquish the lead until the end.

On Wednesday (6:30 p.m.) the Albatrosses will be in demand on matchday 4 of the Champions League at Era Nymburk.
