If it is up to GroenLinks, Bart Heller will return as an alderman, possibly within a few weeks. “The door is open more than a crack,” says party leader Marleen Remmers of GroenLinks.

“We are extremely happy that Bart is open to a return,” she continues. “The council clearly stated in March that he had not had to leave for this issue. With that message I went back to him and we had conversations.”

According to the party leader, those conversations started with hesitation, but the tide has turned. “Now the door is really open in more than a crack and we are extremely happy as a group.”

What happened?

Heller resigned After criticizing his response to a request from a resident to alleviate the Raadhuis Oranje, out of solidarity with the Israeli family Bibas. In his answer, he referred, among other things, to the high number of deaths in Gaza, including many children. The mail was experienced as inappropriate. For example, Chief Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs spoke of anti -Semitism.

Heller apologized, but remained behind the content of his words. Nevertheless, he decided to resign unexpectedly, until surprise of his fellow managers.
