‘Bank employee’ shops with stolen debit card for 1,200 euros in gift cards

A 93-year-old woman from Naarden was scammed for more than a thousand euros on Wednesday, November 29. A so-called bank employee manages to get her PIN code on the phone and later her debit card is picked up by a fake employee. CCTV footage provided by the police shows a suspicious man buying gift vouchers with the victim’s money.

She doesn’t know what she hears when she receives a phone call from ‘the bank’ that Wednesday afternoon. A so-called employee says her bank details have been tampered with.

‘Very helpful’

The 93-year-old woman becomes nervous and is persuaded to provide her PIN code by telephone. She also opens the door to a ‘helpful bank employee’, a courier who asks to give her bank card in an envelope.

That same evening, 1,200 euros worth of gift vouchers are paid for in a bookstore on Kerkstraat in Huizen, using her bank card.

The pinner is clearly visible. The man has a dark skin color and a stocky build. He is also wearing a dark-colored tracksuit from the Under Armor brand, a black jacket and a black cap.

The police really want to know who the man is, especially because the victim was very shocked by the bank fraud and continues to suffer from it to this day.
