Düsseldorf (dpa-Afx)-Green boss Felix Banaszak wants to draw conclusions for upcoming elections from the mixed result of his party in the stab elections of the mayor’s posts in North Rhine-Westphalia. “What we have to do now, in the direction of the state election and towards the federal election, is to build up again that green politics will provide the right answers to the questions of the present and the future,” said Banaszak of the German Press Agency.
In Bonn, a defeat by green incumbent Katja Dörner emerged against her challenger Guido Déus from the CDU. In Cologne, the SPD politician and former sports official Torsten Burmester led the Greens against state parliament vice president Berivan Aymaz. In contrast, a greener was elected mayor in Münster with Tilman Fuchs for the first time.
“We have a mixed result today, and I am also not ready to let the story tell that everything is broken,” emphasized Banaszak. “On the contrary: We have a green mayor against the trend for the first time in Münster.”
In the first ballot two weeks ago, the Greens had to accept considerable losses and got 13.5 percent – after 20 percent in the 2020./RGR/DP/he local elections
