A special theft at Jumbo Bosmans in Cuijk: Two men seized on Monday evening – while the store was open – for around 700 euros in deposit. In total they took six huge bags with deposit bottles and cans. They even came back three times for this.

Owner Joppe Bosmans (27) discovered the theft when he saw several missed calls of a familiar call after a round of running. That knowledge had just driven past the store and saw the theft happen. Bosmans immediately looked at the security images and saw how two men put several bags of deposit bottles in their car.

The thieves struck around seven in the evening and needed more than half an hour for the theft. Because only two bags fit in the car at the same time, they had to drive up and down three times. The store was just open all the time, but none of the employees have seen it happen.

“Our warehouse is simply too small, so the packaging is always outside.”

Bosmans shared the images of the theft on Facebook. Under the message, people wonder why the bags are unguarded outside. “Our warehouse is simply too small, so the packaging is always outside. We often build it in with other carts, but these men have just put them aside,” explains Bosmans.

Because the packaging is always outside, this is not the first time that something has been stolen. “But rather it was a few beer crates. The fact that the supermarket owner says has not happened for so much money,” says the supermarket.

The police have been informed of the incident, but has indicated that further investigation is difficult. Camera images clearly show that the perpetrators’ car has a foreign license plate. As a result, the Public Prosecution Service should start an international procedure to detect the perpetrators. Because there is currently no more known than a license plate, the police have decided that there are too few indications to be able to detect the perpetrators.

Bosmans is disappointed that he himself was not aware of before. “I didn’t have my phone with me while running. If I had known it right away, we might have been able to intervene,” he says.

The owner has since contacted supermarkets in the area, but the deposit has not been returned anywhere yet. He suspects that the perpetrators will wait a few months before they exchange it.
