Baby breaks bones due to abuse, mother is pregnant again

A 36-year-old woman from Budel-Schoot is said to have abused her six-month-old daughter for a long time. The baby is said to have suffered a broken arm, wrist, foot and broken ribs as a result of the abuse. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) stated this on Wednesday during the first pro forma hearing in this case.

According to the OM, the baby was abused between May and November 2022. The girl was then not yet a year old. The mother is charged with attempted murder and bodily harm.

‘Well shaken’
The suspect and her lawyer were not at the hearing on Wednesday. The mother previously said she had no explanation for the fractures. She says she did shake her daughter. An examination by a psychologist and psychiatrist should determine the mother’s mental state.

The woman has been detained because, according to the court, there may be a risk of flight and a risk of recurrence. “The suspect is currently pregnant,” the prosecutor said.

Father also suspect
The father is also a suspect in the case because he would have been involved in the assaults. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he would not have used violence against his daughter.

The case continues pro forma on June 12.
