Patrick Obrist will be missing his club EHC Olten for months. The ice hockey player has cancer. However, the prospects for healing are good.

Austria’s ice hockey national player Patrick Obrist fails indefinitely. During a routine examination, lymph gland cancer was found in the 32-year-old Austrian international. This was announced by his club EHC Olten.

Obrist will now undergo several months of therapy, it said. According to the EHC managing director Christian Roth, the treating doctors “appreciate the chances of recovery as very good”. It is convinced that Obrist will “master this situation with its determination and its positive strength”.

In its message, the club also wished Obrist a lot of strength and a quick recovery. “The EHCO will do everything possible to support him and his family in the best possible way in this way and is looking forward to seeing Patrick healthy again on the ice,” it said.

The striker had only extended his contract in Olten by three season at the beginning of the year and had recently been appointed the new captain by the coaching team. Obrist will now concentrate on his recovery, the association said. Afterwards, the return to team training is planned gradually.
