Shortly before the World Cup, Austria’s team boss Ralf Rangnick suffered a setback. Now it is clear how he wants to compensate for this.

The 28-year-old midfielder will join the team on Thursday at the ÖFB camp in Santa Barbara, California. Christoph Baumgartner will also receive him there. The 26-year-old will remain in the USA during his rehab to support the team.

Ljubičić came to Gelsenkirchen from Zagreb in January and celebrated his return to the Bundesliga with Schalke. He scored four times in 15 second division games. Before that, the Viennese played for 1. FC Köln. He appeared nine times for the Austrian national team and scored one goal.

Austria will play its first World Cup game next Wednesday against Jordan. Other opponents in Group J are Algeria and world champions Argentina.
