Austria’s national coach Ralf Rangnick is a report by the “Sport Bild” topic with the crisis Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. The 66-year-old, who was also traded as a coaching candidate at Bayern for a long time last year, could therefore replace the current sports director Sebastian Kehl at the Westphalia in the summer.
Rangnick has been responsible for the ÖFB selection since summer 2022, and his contract is valid until the end of the year. Association President Wolfgang Bartosch recently excluded an early extension: “We have agreed that this is currently not an issue.” According to media reports from Austria, the German trainer has been no longer satisfied with the overall situation, the relationship with the officials is considered tense, and Rangnick is said to have thought about resignation last autumn. In terms of sport, his team remained without a win in the last three games, and most recently received a defeat against Serbia on Sunday.
According to “Sport Bild”, it can be seen from the coach’s environment that he could well imagine a commitment to Dortmund. In January there was a meeting between Rangnick and the BVB bosses, which, however, was primarily about the exchange of information about two potential new additions that Rangnick knew well. The Marcel Sabitzer personnel is also said to have been an issue. In addition to the assessments of players, according to the magazine, the possibilities of cooperation were also loosely explored. At those responsible for the black and yellow, Rangnick is very popular with his profile and is particularly valued for his competence to be able to put together a squad.
In the public debate, on the other hand, the recent sports director of the Dortmund sporting descendant is creeped in to the current sports director Kehl. In particular, his cooperation with the ex-squad planner Sven Mislintat, which has now been shot, did not work. According to the “Sport Bild”, Kehl will have to vacate his post in summer if a suitable alternative candidate should be found and available – the latter could apply to Rangnick.
