Bebendorf: “In 50 days the best performance”

Now the title fights take place in his hometown for the first time: “I want to run for the title, that would be my sixth. New trainer, new surroundings – “harmonizes very well”
In order to make yourself fit for the German championships and generally for the top of the world, the Dresdener has changed his preparation. Since the end of 2024 he has had a new coach, in Switzerland he trains in an international exercise group and is always in the altitude training camp. “I feel in good hands. I run more weekly kilometers, permanently a very high level. That harmonizes very well,” said Bebendorf.

Unlike the DSC meeting, where he undercut a 28-year-old German record by five seconds in 5: 20.03 minutes, the “Finals” over 3,000 meters. And at this distance, Bebendorf’s Tübingen opponent Frederik Ruppert only set a new German record at the end of May – in 8: 01.49 minutes he improved the previous best value of 1999 by eight seconds. “For me it was a little shock,” said Bebendorf. “But it showed what is possible.”

The Sachse definitely wants to be better than Ruppert in 50 days. “I know every inch in Dresden. I think Megacool thinks that the city gets attention through the finals.” Especially since his competition takes place in the Heinz-Steyer Stadium, where he won in August 2024 at the opening and at the end of May 2025. “I have had the pleasure of walking in my living room at home twice. This is a mood and atmosphere that is addictive.” The sixth title is the goal. And the confidence is great: “I am excited to see what I am in.” In 50 days not only all athletics fans know.
