It is hot alarm in Tokyo: the marathon and the 35 km of the World Championships will start 30 minutes in advance. According to the weather forecast, the temperatures will exceed 30 degrees for most of the World Cup scheduled from Saturday to 21 September. The male (with Orsoni, Giupponi and Caporaso) and female (with Antonella Palmisano, Eleonora Giorgi and Nicole Colombi) marked on Saturday, the female marathon on Sunday and the male marathon on Monday will leave at 7.30 local time (00.30 in Italy). This was announced by World Athletics, explaining that the decision is to give “the utmost priority” to the safety of athletes, in light of the “foreseen conditions of intense heat that could represent a risk to health and safety”.
