Niels Laros has booked a sensational victory on the English miles during the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, USA. The 20-year-old athlete from Oosterhout outdated after a long final sprint the two runners in front and won the race in a Dutch record of 3.45.94. He took almost three seconds from the previous national top time, which was also in the name of Laros.
The American favorite Yared Nuguse and the Frenchman Azeddine Habz made an attack on the world record of 3.43.13 in the so -called Bowerman Mile, walking in 1999 by the Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj. The pair took more than distance from the rest of the field, but their pace dropped in the final round.
Acceleration
Laros started an acceleration in the last round that brought him closer to the two in front. With an extreme effort, the young Dutchman managed to catch up both runners and the seventh time ever walked.
Countryman Stefan Nillessen finished thirteenth in 3.49.53.
