World champion goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will stay with Los Angeles FC for at least another year. On Thursday, the Californians announced the extension of the contract with the French keeper. If the club also activates the agreed option for one more season at the end of 2026, i.e. until December 2027, Lloris would be 41 years old at the end of the contract. He celebrates his 39th birthday on December 26th.

“Hugo has been an incredible leader and figurehead for our team since his first day with us,” LAFC Co-President and General Manager John Thorrington said of Lloris. “We are very pleased that we have reached an agreement so that he remains loyal to the club. Hugo is a person of exceptional character and high quality, both on and off the pitch, and he continues to shape the atmosphere in our dressing room with his experience, his professionalism and his winning mentality. The fact that he is here is invaluable.”

Lloris, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, came to Los Angeles from Tottenham in early 2024. In his first two seasons he was a regular player with only a few breaks. Since this summer, Lloris has also been captain of the team at all times, supporting Heung-min Son (33), who was also brought in from Tottenham. In the playoffs for the MLS Cup, LAFC’s Thomas Müller (36) was over in the quarterfinals after a penalty shootout against Vancouver. In the last Club World Cup, the team failed after the group stage, in which they only picked up a point against Flamengo after defeats against Chelsea and Esperance. They finished the regular MLS season in third place in the Western Conference.

“From the beginning I recognized the ambition of this club and the strong culture among players, staff and fans,” said Lloris about his extension. “I came here to prove myself, to continue playing at a high level and to help this club fight for titles – and this environment is a perfect fit for me at this stage of my career. I appreciate the trust that LAFC has placed in me and my family and I have settled well in Los Angeles. I look forward to the coming season and to continuing to give my best for the club.”
