At the age of 70: Olympic bobsleigh champion Bernhard Germeshausen died

Sad news from the sport of bobsleigh. Multiple Olympic champion Bernhard Germeshausen is dead. He had won gold three times for the former GDR.

The German bobsleigh mourns the multiple Olympic champion Bernhard Germeshausen. According to the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, the Thuringian died on Good Friday after a long illness at the age of 70.

As a pusher in Meinhard Nehmer’s sled, Germeshausen won a total of three Olympic gold medals for the former GDR – in 1976 in Innsbruck both in twos and fours, and in 1980 in Lake Placid again in fours. At the Winter Games in the USA, the former decathlete also sat on the ropes himself in a small sled and won silver in the process. Germeshausen’s great successes also include three world championship titles.
