At least 26 killed in explosions near party offices of Pakistani election candidates

At least 26 people were killed in two separate explosions near the offices of Pakistani independent election candidates on Wednesday morning. That Pakistani media report on basis from local authorities. Dozens of people were injured. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the explosions – which may have been attacks. The party offices are both located in the province of Baluchistan, in southwestern Pakistan.

According to the local information minister, the first explosion in the city of Pishin was caused by a bomb attached to a motorcycle. Little is known about the other explosion, which took place in the town of Qila Saifullah. The explosions come on the eve of national and provincial elections to be held on Thursday.

During the election campaign, Pakistani politicians have had to deal with several incidents of violence in recent weeks. Earlier, at least two candidates were killed and dozens of other politicians attacked. Pakistani authorities have recently deployed more than half a million security forces to ensure the security of the country’s elections.
